The Legal Practice of T. Duncan & Co has represented a reassuring and established presence in the life of Montrose and District for almost 40 years.
Over the period of its existence, T. Duncan & Co has provided Legal Services tothousands of clients in the Montrose area, North Angus and South East Kincardineshire, often for different Generations of the same Families. The firm has become popularly known to many Montrosians as "Tommy Duncan's".
T. Duncan & Co was first established by the late Tom Duncan in 1967 when he set up in practice on his own account after having previously been, for many years, a Partner in the former Montrose firm of Alexander Lyell & Company. Tom Duncan was a very popular figure in the Town, known to the majority of the residents, either personally or recognised on account of his dapper appearance and trademark Bowler Hat, which he wore until relatively recent times. As well as providing reliable and valued Legal Counsel and assistance to thousands of clients, Tom Duncan was also a very active participant in the life of the Montrose community.
The first office of T. Duncan & Co was above the Bank of Scotland at 2 John Street, Montrose. However, in 1971, the firm moved to larger premises at its present Office which had been the former National Commercial Bank at 192 High Street, Montrose. Over the years, these premises have been extended by the acquisition of adjoining properties. In 2003 the firm further expanded with the move of the Property Department of T. Duncan & Co to an office at 143 High Street, Montrose, directly across from the main office premises.
T. Duncan & Co is now well established as a General Practice which provides a comprehensive and wide range of Legal Services to individual and business clients, both as Property Lawyers and Court Lawyers.
The Practice of T. Duncan & Co is currently operated by two Partners in Kenneth Bruce and Nick Markowski, supported by four other Solicitors and a further staff of ten in the Legal Office and Property Department.
  
         
 
Kenneth Bruce, Senior partner
      
 

Kenneth Bruce Kenneth Bruce is the current Senior Partner of the firm of T. Duncan & Co. After taking an Honours Degree is Law at Aberdeen University, he joined the office of T. Duncan & Co in 1976.
He now leads the Private Client Department of T. Duncan & Co. This Department offers a comprehensive service to individual and business clients in the areas of Conveyancing, Property Law, Commercial and other Contracts, Wills and Executries and all General work, not related to Court or Litigation matters.

Kenneth Bruce is assisted in the Private Client Department by Consultant, lan Davidson, Assistant Solicitor, and Legal Assistant, Helen Petrie.

lan Davidson is very well known in Montrose, having been a Solicitor with T. Duncan & Co for over 30 years and a Partner of the firm until 2001. He continues to provide a full range of legal advice to clients.

Legal Assistant, Helen Petrie, is a member of the Society of Specialist Paralegals, holding a Paralegal Qualification from Strathclyde University.

Nick Markowski Nick Markowski has been a partner with T. Duncan & Co. since 1998. His responsibility is for the Court Team, which is undoubtedly one of the busiest Court Teams in Angus. He predominantly carries out Criminal Defence Work appearing on a daily basis in the local Sheriff and District Courts. In addition, Nick and his Team have dealt with a large number of high profile High Court Cases. Nick also deals with a large number of Accident / Personal Injury Claims on behalf of Pursuers. Brought up in Forfar, Nick studied at Glasgow University where he obtained an Hons Law Degree specialising in Forensic Medicine which has proved extremely useful in dealing with evidence in Court Cases on a daily basis. He returned to the Angus area and now lives with his wife and three daughters in Montrose.

Away from work, Nick’s main interest, apart from his family, is sport. He played football for Glasgow University. He was a prolific goal scorer for Arbroath Victoria JFC and Forfar West End JFC during the 1990’s. He is still a keen sportsman and is an active member of Montrose Badminton Club. Nick is also one of the youngest members of the Rotary Club of Montrose.

  ERIC WHYTE graduated from the University of Dundee in 1976 and was admitted as a Solicitor in 1978. He was a partner in the Firm of R. J. McLeod & Co, SSC, Leith for some ten years during an extensive period of practice in Edinburgh until 1999. After moving to the North East of Scotland in 1999, he practised in Aberdeen until joining T. Duncan & Co in March 2005. He brings to the Firm valuable experience in the fields of conveyancing and private client work.  
     
 
     
Nicola Davidson , Solicitor
  
  NICOLA JANE DAVIDSON, graduated from the University of Aberdeen in 1999 and was admitted as a Solicitor in 2001. She trained and thereafter remained with Hodge, Solicitors, Blairgowrie until August 2006, when she joined the firm of T. Duncan & Company in September 2006. Nicola’s main law interests are conveyancing and private client work. Nicola is a native of Brechin.

  ASHLEY HENDERSON is a Solicitor who joinrd the Firm of T. Duncan & Co in 2005. Born and brought up in Aberdeen, she graduated from the University of Aberdeen with an Honours LLB Degree and Diploma in Legal Practice in 2005.
Since joining T. Duncan & Co, Ashley has become a valuable member of the Court Department. She has substantial expertise in many areas of Civil Court and Tribunal representation.
